A huge wedding consumption market exists in China and it is still expanding rapidly. According to our official questionnaire survey on wedding consumption of newly-weds, which is conducted in more than 20 provincial capitals and municipalities, result showed that about 3.39 million couples of newly-weds spend up to 50 billion US dollars each year in urban area. (About) 36.83% of newly-weds prefers buying rather than renting their bridal gowns, and this percentage is still increasing at fast pace. For example, the percentage of newly-weds who buys their bridal gowns in Beijing was 36.3% in 2004, it grew up to 50.64% in 2005 and 61.80% in 2006, which doubled within two years. The survey also found that high-end consumers in China prefer only high-class bridal gowns and they have a favorable image about bridal gowns from North America & Europe. The expenditure of bridal gowns alone is more than 0.6 billion US dollars each year and it’s still growing.

China International Wedding Expo (held by the government) is the largest wedding expo in China, and it takes place at Beijing Exhibition Centre every year. Expo 2006 (CIW2006) was a successful one. There were over 100 exhibitors from China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and France, exhibiting over 500 booths and attracting over 50,000 attendants.
